December 25th, 2009
Julie Cudney asked:
Although you may have gotten Cedric the Entertainer tickets because of the comedian’s stand up abilities, but he is now going to be able to add Broadway star to his list of accomplishments. He is set to play Don, a junk shop owner, in the Broadway revival of American Buffalo by David Mamet. The final casting for the show is not yet complete, but Cedric will also be with John Leguizamo as Teach.
The show is about thieves—albeit inept ones—that are trying to steal a coin collection. The original play, which hit Broadway in 1977, starred Robert Duvall, John Savage and Kenneth Macmillan. Another revival in 1983 starred Al Pacino and an off-Broadway revival had William H. Macy in 2000. The story was also made into a movie in 1996 and starred Dustin Hoffman. The story is a classic one and will surely only boost the sales of Cedric the Entertainer tickets.
David Mamet gained notoriety through this show and also released The Duck Variations, Sexual Perversity in Chicao, GlengarryGlen Ross, Boston Marriage and The Cryptogram. This revival’s producers include Elliot Martin, Ben Sprecher, Louise Forlenza, Wendy Federman and Nelle Nugent. American Buffalo will be on the stage by fall.
Cedric the Entertainer was born Cedric Kyles in Jefferson City, Missouri. He tried different careers after his college years at Southeast Missouri State before starting his career in standup. He soon shot to stardom when he was on television in It’s Showtime at the Apollo. His success as a comedian led to him being part of the Original Kings of Comedy tour with other comedians Steve Harvey, D.L. Hughley and Bernie Mac. He has also had a successful movie career, appearing in films like Barbershop, Kingdom Come, Big Momma’s House, Johnson Family Vacation and Intolerable Cruelty. He has more movies set to release like Caught on Tape and Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa.
Cedric the Entertainer’s extensive acting and stage experience as a standup comedian make him the perfect choice for a Broadway production. Fans of his will surely be the first ones in line looking to see him up on stage. It will even make Cedric the Entertainer tickets for his standup routine more popular as well.
