Shakira Concert Tickets

Shakira was born in Barranquilla, Colombia to a Colombian mother Nidia del Carmen Ripoll Torrado of Spanish descent and an American-born father William Mebarak Chadid of Lebanese descent. Her oldest half-sister Lucy is a surgeon; her half-brother, Alberto, is a lawyer; Moises is the third child; Tonino is the fourth child and the closest to Shakira, having worked many years as her road manager. Then there is Patricia who lives in Spain, she is a special education teacher, and finally there is Antonio and Edward, the youngest who both live in Miami. Shakira began writing and composing music at the age of eight. One of the first songs she wrote was called “Tus Gafas Oscuras” (Your Dark Glasses), whose lyrical message revolved around her father and his grief over a son who had died in a car accident. At the age of ten, Shakira tried out for her school choir, but she was rejected because her voice had been noted as “too strong.” Friends teased her by saying she sounded like a goat. Shakira started looking for other singing opportunities, and competed in a weekly television singing competition for children, Vivan Los Niños (Long Live The Kids).

Between the ages of ten to thirteen, Shakira was invited to various events in Barranquilla, and became a local celebrity. At that time she met local theatre producer Monica Ariza, who was impressed with Shakira and helped to make her known outside Barranquilla. During a flight from Barranquilla to Bogota, Ariza happened to be sitting next to Sony Colombia executive Ciro Vargas. Vargas agreed to hold an audition for Shakira, which took place a few weeks later in a hotel lobby. Vargas was impressed and returned to the Sony office and gave Shakira’s cassette to the song and artist director, but he was not excited at all, and thought Shakira was “a lost cause.” Vargas was convinced that Shakira had talent, and set up a surprise audition in Bogotá. He tricked the Sony Colombia executives to this bar, and around midnight he announced he had a surprise: Shakira. She sang three songs, and her performance was a hit. Shakira was subsequently signed to write and record three albums.

Magia (Magic) was Shakira’s debut album, recorded with Sony Colombia in 1991, at the age of 15. The songs were penned by her from the time she was eight, however it was hampered by a lack of recording and production cohesion and did not fare well commercially. Less than one thousand copies were sold and the album is now sought after as a collector’s item Peligro. (Danger) was Shakira’s second album. It was released in 1993 through Sony Colombia, when Shakira was just 17. This album fared better than Magia, but Shakira decided to take a break from recording and graduate from high school. The recording itself is a collection of self-penned songs but is once again marred by a lack of cohesive production.

In 2001, upon the success of ¿Dónde Están Los Ladrones?, Shakira began working on a crossover album to the English language. Collaborating with Gloria Estefan, Shakira wrote and recorded English versions of the tracks from ¿Dónde Están Los Ladrones?, and new songs were also composed to create Laundry Service. Although it was aimed at the English language market, the rock and Spanish dance-influenced album also features four Spanish songs, including “Que Me Quedes Tu” (That You Love Me). Some critics claimed that Shakira’s English skills were too weak for her to write in it (she was satirized in a MAD TV sketch), but Laundry Service was a success, selling more than 13 million CDs worldwide, yielding the worldwide hit “Whenever, Whenever” and singles “Underneath Your Clothes” (a Canadian number-one), “Te Dejo Madrid” (I Leave You Madrid), “Objection (Tango) “, and “The One”. The album and its singles established Shakira’s musical presence in the mainstream North American market.

In 2002, Shakira also released the Spanish greatest hits volume Grandes exitos. A DVD and ten-track compilation album called Live & Off the Record, was released in 2004 reaching sales of 3 million CDs worldwide, commemorating Shakira’s 2002-2003 world tour, the “Tour of the Mongoose”. The name of the tour was derived from the fact that mongoose can defeat a cobra without being killed by its poison. The concerts were interspersed with visuals of a mongoose fighting a cobra.

In September 2002, Shakira was one of the last artists to win the now-defunct International Viewer’s Choice Award at the MTV Video Music Awards with Suerte. In October of that year, she won 5 MTV Video Music Awards Latin America for Best Female Artist, Best Pop Artist, Best Artist—North (Region), Video of the Year (for Suerte), and Artist of the Year. At Aerosmith’s MTV Icon in 2002, Shakira performed “Dude (Looks Like A Lady)”. Also in 2002, Shakira joined the likes of Celin Dion, Anastacia, Cher and The Dixie Chicks for VH1 Divas Live Las Vegas.

A Wicked Poster is a Great Gift to Someone Who Collects Musical Show Posters

December 8th, 2009

Muna wa Wanjiru asked:

There are many people who look at posters to make sure that the play they have chosen will provide them with an idea of how much fun they will have watching the play. Now in general the posters for plays are full of fun and adventure. There some posters which depict another side to the gentle plays. You will find that these wicked posters are full of life.

The posters are shown in glorious colors and they show how the words of the play can be used to tempt us to see the play. Broadway shows which use these posters have an advantage to them. The wicked posters will be shown in full color, however as they can be seen by the public you will find that these posters are tastefully depicted. The artists who provide the theaters with these posters use the information which is provided.

From this information they draw the poster of the play. Sometimes the wicked poster look comes into play based on the information that these artists are given. Now while the producers and directors of these plays don’t want their plays to be listed as being unsuitable for the public they still want their play to show the wicked aspect of the play.

You will find that in addition to being displayed on the walls of a theater a wicked poster can be found in gift shops in the theater itself. Additionally you have the chance of looking for rare posters on the internet. The many different posters which are for sale can be laminated, glossy or just shown on colored board.

Now you might find that buying a laminated poster is more expensive than the usual ones. There is however an advantage to buying one of these posters. The advantage that you will find in buying wicked posters is that of they will last for many years. Additionally you get to see and relive the memories of the play when you buy such posters.

A wicked poster can be a great gift to someone who collects musical show posters, movie posters and many others. To make the gift even more special you might want to look at the different posters from various times. A wicked poster is the best gift to find if you like seeing how the tastes in entertainment change through the years.

The many different posters of Broadway that you can find will help you to find ones that you want. A wicked poster will just be the icing on the cake.

Aerosmith Concert Tickets

Jacob Tapistry asked:

Aerosmith Concert Tickets

Aerosmith is a prominent American rock band. Although they are known as a Boston, Massachusetts band, none of the members are actually from the city. Three of the members, Steven Tallarico (Tyler), Joe Perry, and Tom Hamilton had originally met in Sunapee, New Hampshire in the late ’60s, but had not yet formed a band together. Tyler was from Yonkers, New York, Perry from Hopedale , Massachusetts, and Hamilton from New London, New Hampshire. In 1970, the three decided to form a band and that Boston, Massachusetts would be the ideal venue.

The band enjoyed major popularity throughout the 1970’s, but their serious substance abuse and drug addictions contributed to their decline (The Greatful Dead’s Jerry Garcia reportedly said they were “the druggiest bunch of guys I’ve ever seen”), and almost relegated them to the annals of history. Joe Perry and Brad Whitford left the group and the period from 1979-1984 was a dark one for the band, which carried on with replacements. However, in 1984, chiefly due to the tireless efforts of Joe Perry’s then manager, Tim Collins, to reform the original band, Aerosmith was born again. Despite the insistence of his own client Perry that it was unthinkable, Collins succeeded in helping the band resolve old differences and to ultimately overcome their addictions. Since then, Aerosmith has remained sober for nearly 20 years, and has achieved a level of sustained success that has well eclipsed their 1970’s heyday. Aerosmith, who have performed as the original lineup for the past 22 years, have sold 140 million albums worldwide and have gone on to enjoy a resurgence in popularity that has made them one of the top-selling, acclaimed, and most popular rock bands in the world today.

oe Perry and Tom Hamilton moved to Boston in September of 1970. There they met Joey Kramer, who was, coincidentally, from Yonkers, New York, and also knew Steven Tallarico (soon to be Tyler). Shortly after meeting and after hearing Perry and Hamilton play, Kramer agreed to join the band they were forming, with the understanding that Tyler, whom he’d always hoped one day to play with, would be the Lead Vocalist. Steven Tyler then joined them in Boston in October of 1970 and Aerosmith was born. The five original members were: Steven Tyler (Vocals), Joe Perry (Lead Guitar), Tom Hamilton (Bass), Joey Kramer (Drums), and Ray Tabano (Rhythm Guitar). It wouldn’t be until the summer of 1971 that Ray Tabano was replaced by Brad Whitford of Reading, Massachusetts on guitar, and that Aerosmith would be complete. Other than a period from July 1979 to April 1984, this is the line-up that is still Aerosmith today.

Many people when thinking about buying Aerosmith concert tickets put it off, thinking buying tickets is too much work and that they aren’t going to get and good seats. Bob Dylan Concert Ticket - How to Get In For Free

November 29th, 2009
concert tickets
Brian Mcgregor asked:

If you’re looking for a Bob Dylan concert ticket, you may be at a loss as to how you are going to afford it. The price of concert tickets seems to have risen substantially in recent years, and you may need to use a little initiative if you want to see Bob Dylan in concert.

There are several ways in which the money shortage problem can be attacked. Here are a few ideas for you. Some of these are sensible, some are stupid and some are clever.

For example, it makes every sense to simply save up for your Bob Dylan concert ticket. Every sense, but dull! Or, you could try selling some of your material goods on eBay. You’ll undoubtedly make money, but what a chore! Or how about going cap in hand to the person most likely to fall for your hard times story, and who would see the opportunity of funding your concert ticket purchase as a mission of mercy? Sucker!

If these (relatively) sensible ideas aren’t for you, how about some off the wall suggestions towards raising funds to buy that ticket?

Hold a garage sale. Why not convert all that junk you’ve grown out of into cash? Or how about doing a sponsored diet, walk, swim, run, climb, bungee jump, parachute - whatever takes your fancy?

Turning away from the ridiculous, let’s consider the sublime. What would you say if there was a way in which you could get in to see the Bob Dylan concert for free? It is possible. All you need is a backstage pass.

“Is that all?”, I hear you ask, in an unbelieving sort of way.

Yes, that is all.

A backstage pass will get you in to your concert. You’ll be able to take photographs while the general punters are having their cameras confiscated. You could be on the side of the stage watching, and you might even meet Bob Dylan.

Now, there are techniques in applying for a backstage pass to any concert. There are certain people to approach in certain ways. You need to know who these people are, how to contact them and what you need to get over to them in order for them to give you your backstage pass.

If you know the right way to go about this, you can have fantastic success. If you go about it the wrong way, however, then you’d better find the money from somewhere because the only way in to the concert for you is to buy a ticket!

Fortunately, there are several resources available to help you succeed in getting backstage passes. For example, ConcertGroove offer a free ebook on the topic. It’s really an introduction, but it will be useful to you if you’re totally new to the concept of backstage passes.

If you really want to get your Bob Dylan concert ticket without paying, in other words get a backstage pass, you could try searching on Google and seeing what other resources are there for you.

Without doubt, having a backstage pass is a very exciting proposition. Getting close up and personal with your favorite is what it’s all about.

The current members of the group include: Jeff Tweedy, John Stirratt, Nels Cline, Glenn Kotche, Pat Sansone and Mikael Jorgensen. The group works together to create a sound that is something more than just your standard alternative rock sound. They have taken a lot of their inspiration from previous recording artists like John Cale, John Lennon, Neil Young and Brian Wilson. Staind Concert Tickets

November 8th, 2009
buy concert tickets
Jacob Tapistry asked:

After meeting through friends and covering Korn, Rage Against the Machine, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains , among others, in smalltime clubs for two years, Staind self-released their debut album, Tormented, in November 1996, citing influences Pantera and Sepultura. The album is generally regarded as the band’s heaviest and “rawest” effort. Until recently, the album was difficult to obtain, as only four thousand copies were originally sold. Since then, the demand from fans has allowed it to be released through the band’s official website.

The band’s big break came after Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst signed them to his Flip record label and co-produced their 1999 breakthrough Dysfunction with Terry Date. Although it is supposed that the band owe a lot of success to Durst, Aaron Lewis has expressed in interviews that the band never had much of a relationship with either the singer or the band, claiming the band ‘only worked on four songs with Durst and recorded the rest of the album themselves.’ Staind have not been associated with Durst since he directed several videos from their 2001 follow-up. To this day, Dysfunction has sold over two million copies in the U.S. alone. The album was given mediocre reviews by critics for being “indicative of the times”, but a large number of the band’s fans nonetheless regard it as the group’s best work. The nine-track nu-metal LP (with one hidden track, “Excess Baggage”) produced three singles, all of which enjoyed radio play. The most well-known, “Mudshovel,” (which also appeared on Tormented, spelled as “Mudshuvel”), has since become a staple of the band’s live show. Staind toured with Limp Bizkit for the Family Values Tour during the fall of 1999, where Aaron Lewis performed their first mainstream hit “Outside” (a song he was working on at the time but had not yet finished—he finished it on the fly while performing) with Fred Durst to hundreds of waving cigarette lighters, and which set them up for their smash hit 2001 album Break the Cycle, which brought them international success (it went number 1 in both the U.S. and the UK), sold more than 7 million copies, and had first week sales of over 700 000 in the U.S. alone. The album sees the band move away from the nu-metal sounds of their previous album and resort to an alternative metal. Break the Cycle spawned five hit singles to date, “It’s Been Awhile,” (which hit the Billboard Top 10) “Fade,” (which has been featured on a number of movie soundtracks and television shows), “Outside,” “For You,” and “Epiphany,” and included a track called “Waste,” devoted to two teenage fans who committed suicide shortly before the album was released. The album also received mixed critical praise; Rolling Stone magazine called them “the grim genre’s most song-oriented, downright sensitive band in years” while New Musical Express referred to the album as “14 tracks of parent-friendly grunge-flavoured soft rock that make Creed sound like GG Allin.” (a statement that proved ironic, since Break the Cycle was later included in Hit Parader’s The Top 50 Metal Albums of All Time at number 46 and The Top 10 “New Metal” CDs at #3).

In early 2003, Staind embarked on a world-wide tour to promote the release of the follow-up to Break The Cycle, 14 Shades of Grey, which sold two million albums and also debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200. The fourteen-track collection was the band’s most mainstream yet, and showed Aaron Lewis writing songs about his daughter, as well as moving on with his life and forgetting his past, hence the title representing uncertainty for the future and forgiveness (a tribute to Lewis’s supposed idol Layne Staley from Alice in Chains also appeared on the album). The album provided two mainstream hits: the lead single “Price to Play”, and “So Far Away”; in addition, two other singles failed to crack the Hot 100—”How About You” and “Zoe Jane”— but “How About You” was a fairly popular song on modern rock radio. The band’s appearance at Readings Festival during the 2003 tour had another impromptu acoustic set, this time due to equipment failure. The singles “So Far Away” and “Price to Play” came with two unreleased tracks, “Novocaine” and “Let It Out,” which were released for the special edition of the group’s Chapter V , which came out in late 2005.

In 2003, Staind unsuccessfully sued their logo designer John Stainbrook in New York Federal Court for attempting to re-use the logo he had sold to the band. They re-opened the case in mid-2005.

During the break between releases, Aaron Lewis performed backing vocals for good friends Jimmie’s Chicken Shack for their single “Fallin’ Out,” taken from that band’s LP Re.Present (released in 2004). He also worked with the popular nu-metal group Linkin Park in making a remix of their song “Crawling” (spelled as “Krwling”) for the band’s 2002 album Reanimation, also preforming background vocals on Sevendust’s song “Follow” off the album Animosity and Scooter Ward of Cold on the track “Bleed” from early 2001.

After extensive promotions, including an appearance on Fuse TV’s 7th Avenue Drop, Staind’s newest album, titled Chapter V was released on August 9th, 2005, and became their third consecutive number one in a row. The album opened to sales of 185,000 and has since been certified platinum in the U.S. The first single “Right Here” has been slowly gaining momentum since it was released mid-2005, and is currently climbing the mainstream charts. “Falling” (the video of which does not feature the band members at all) and “Everything Changes” have also been released and there are plans to release another single, “King Of All Excuses.” Staind have been on the road since the album came out doing live shows and promoting it for a full year, including participating in the Fall Brawl tour with P.O.D, Taproot and Flyleaf, a solo tour across Europe and a mini-promotional tour in Australia for the first time. Recent live shows have included a cover of Pantera’s This Love, a tribute to the late Dimebag Darrell.

Staind appeared on the Howard Stern Show on August 10, 2005, to promote their new album Chapter V. They performed acoustic renditions of the single Right Here and Beetlejuice’s song “This is Beetle.” Their rendition of “Beetle” is immensely popular with fans and listeners alike and has become a staple of the show. A black-and-white animated video was created for the song by Kevin Lofton, who does all the animation for the Howard Stern website.

Their song “Price to Play” was the official theme song of WWE’s Vengeance pay-per-view event in July 2003. As well, their song “So Far Away” was featured on an episode of WWE RAW as part of a video tribute to hardcore wrestling legend Mick Foley. During a January 2006 Episode of WWE RAW, a tribute video to then WWE Champion Edge featured the band’s song “Right Here.”

In early November of 2005, Staind released the limited edition 2-CD/DVD set of Chapter V, which included several rarities and fan favorites— music videos; a complete, 36-page booklet with exclusive artwork; an audio disc with an acoustic rendition of “This is Beetle”; the original, melodic rendition of “Reply”; the previously released B-side singles “Novocaine” and “Let It Out”; and live versions of “It’s Been a While” and “Falling”, among many others.

Many people when thinking about buying Staind concert tickets put it off, thinking buying tickets is too much work and that they aren’t going to get and good seats. What Everyone Needs to Know About Glastonbury Tickets

November 4th, 2009
event tickets
Camping Now asked:

Once you have established roughly when the tickets will be going on sale you have to find out where you can buy your ticket from .

For any given festival there are a number of agencies that are allocated tickets to sell on behalf of the promoters. They sell these tickets at the face value plus a booking and processing fee which tends to be 5-10%. Knowing in advance who will be selling the tickets will give you a head start. Every year you will hear people say things like “I tried to get through for ages and by the time I did they’d sold out” and “I phoned up all morning but the number was always engaged”. The first lesson to learn is USE THE INTERNET! You are far more likely to secure tickets if you try online rather than on the phone. When you phone up the call centres, they work from the same database of tickets as the website does. Online systems this year will be more robust than ever before in order to cope with the demand created when festival tickets go onsale, so my advice would be to use the internet. Remember to make sure you use the fastest browser and have a fast connection

So the first step is to find out where to buy from. The agencies that will have the bulk of the tickets for the major festivals this year are:

• TicketMaster: Probably have the largest allocation for most and the site with the least chance of crashing, it is a pretty robust site with a good online queuing system. Good for all festival tickets.

• See Tickets: Not quite as robust and more likely to crash on you but easy to use. Normally when a big event goes onsale they implement a 2 page order process whereby you enter the number of tickets you want and put all of your details on the next page, which reduce the load on your server and means you can get in and out quickly. This site however does have the tendency to crash after you have entered your details, leaving you insure of whether you’ve got the tickets or not!

• Ticketline: Very likely to crash but a lesser known site so there is less demand

• Stargreen: (for V, Reading and Isle of Wight) These guys normally only have tickets for London events but also distribute tickets for the above festivals. The beauty of this site is that it isn’t that well known so getting in early will give you a good chance of getting tickets.

• Aloud.com: This site is powered by Ticketmaster, so you’re ultimately using the same backend system. Wait times on this site are likely to be just as long as on Ticketmaster but a god backup just in case.

• Lastminute.com: Very little known that Lastminute.com have tickets to all the major festivals. They often don’t put them on sale until after the official onsale time and normally still have tickets left after everyone else has sold out. (although this year they are powering NME tickets for the first time so will likely sell out much faster).

• NME Tickets: Now powered by Lastminute.com, however the lastminute site directly has a faster server so it’s probably better to go straight there

• Seatme/Keith Prowse – another lesser known site selling tickets to the major festivals, they only have a small allocation but as no one knows about them, the demand is much less. As of yet, I’m not totally sure what allocation they will have so it will be worth checking back.

• NEC Box Office (for V staffs) – The NEC have tickets every year for the V festival in Staffs that you can buy online or over the phone.

• Gigsinscotland (for T in the Park) – A good source for your T in the Park ticket. 30,000 T in the Park tickets were sold on the ‘early bird’ offer in 2006 so this will sell out Very quickly!

• Ticketzone (for Isle of Wight) – another little known agency that normally has Isle of Wight tickets.

As well as these, other local agents/record stores often have tickets allocated, so if you live locally, always worth checking the local outlets. Ticketmaster have outlets in selected HMV stores, theatres etc, and as a general rule, these ticket centres work from the same database of tickets as the websites and the phone agents. I’m sure you’ve also heard that Ticketmaster may be selling tickets throgh National Lotery machines, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens there!

Why Do so Many Ticket Websites Have the Same Inventory?

October 29th, 2009

A. Khalighi asked:

Many people want to know how is it possible that almost every ticket agency out in the world wide web in some form or another has the same seats listed on their web site. Some will have lower prices then others but when you go to checkout the price gets adjusted. Well here’s the answer: There are 3 main “ticket exchanges” hosting every ticket brokers inventory. These exchanges take the listing of all ticket sellers and offer them back in a bundle or “plug in” back to the ticket seller or ticket website as a feed. Each ticket seller has their own inventory but in relation to what they are posting it’s most likely anywhere from 1% to 5% of all the seats that show up on their web site. So it’s a good idea to see what you ticket broker specializes in, because if they hold the inventory chances are you can get the best price for that ticket. Golden Circle Tickets specializes in tickets to NY Broadway shows and Los Angeles theater. We carry the feed like everyone else and our margins are as low as we can have them but you get the best value for your seats when heading to the theater. Our inventory for tickets genereally breaks down as follows

45% Theater Tickets

Radiohead concert tickets

Radiohead’s style, notable for its variety and versatility, can be largely explained by the eclectic musical tastes and accomplishments of its members. Lead guitarist Jonny Greenwood is currently the BBC’s Composer in Residence, a multi-instrumentalist, and the only classically trained member of the band, playing (aside from the guitar) such instruments as the Ondes Martenot, banjo, viola and harmonica. Lead singer Thom Yorke, as well as writing all the lyrics, plays several different instruments, and has also focused in recent years on the digital manipulation of sound. He and Jonny are both credited with playing “laptop” on the band’s most recent album.

Though Yorke and Greenwood are often seen as the main creative influences within the band, songwriting is chiefly a collaborative effort, and all members are cited equally by the band in their album credits. For example, Ed O’Brien, though usually employed as a guitarist and backing vocalist, is responsible for creating many of the noises and effects heard in songs (such as the end of “Karma Police”), and is also a skilled drummer; and bassist Colin Greenwood and drummer Phil Selway are known to have played an influential role in shaping several of Radiohead’s recent pieces. Since the Kid A and Amnesiac recording sessions, band members have felt less constrained to always play “their” instrument, often switching off depending on what the song requires, although in live shows the roles are usually more consistent.

This spirit of creative collaboration is also shown in the band’s close relationship with their producers, in particular Nigel Godrich, who worked with the band as coproducer on OK Computer and the following three albums after serving as an engineer on the recording of The Bends. Godrich has often been dubbed the “sixth member” of Radiohead in an allusion to George Martin’s work with the Beatles, but this association has been at least temporarily broken following the band’s decision to work with Mark “Spike” Stent during current recording sessions.

Graphic artist Stanley Donwood is another long-term associate of the group, having produced together with Yorke (who is often listed under the pseudonym “Tchock”, “Tchocky”, or “Dr. Tchock”) all of Radiohead’s visual artwork (excepting music videos) since their My Iron Lung EP. For Radiohead, Donwood has produced art ranging from oil paintings to computer generated imagery to collages and antique style posters, and prefers to work in the same place the band is recording so as to find a visual equivalent for their sound. Donwood thus projects significant influence over the public image of the band, and the issues addressed in his artwork have been seen to act as a catalyst to themes within Yorke’s lyrics. Together with Yorke, he won a Grammy in 2002 for a special edition of Amnesiac packaged as a library book.

Radiohead were formed in the mid-Eighties at Abingdon School, a public (in American English: private) boys-only school located just outside the city of Oxford, which drummer Phil Selway, guitarist Ed O’Brien, guitarist/vocalist Thom Yorke, bassist Colin Greenwood and Colin’s multi-instrumentalist brother Jonny all attended. They began practicing in the school’s music room, which led to the formation of their first band On a Friday, so named because of their customary rehearsal date. Among On a Friday’s earliest influences were The Smiths, Joy Division, Magazine, Queen, R.E.M, and Elvis Costello. The band played their first gig in September 1986, at Oxford’s Jericho Tavern. Jonny was the youngest member, and played only harmonica until he could persuade the others to allow him on guitar, but he soon developed into the band’s lead player. At one point early in the band’s history, On a Friday also had several girls in the lineup playing saxophone.

When the five band members left school to attend university they temporarily put aside On a Friday, but continued to practice on holiday breaks, always planning to return to the band. After four years of dormancy, On a Friday began releasing demos (such as the Manic Hedgehog Demo) and performing live again in Oxford in 1991, becoming popular in the region and also appearing on the cover of local magazine Curfew. Though Oxfordshire and the Thames Valley had an active independent music scene in the late 80s and early 90s centred around shoegazing bands like Ride and Slowdive, Radiohead was not seen to fit into this trend, and commented that they had “missed” it by the time they returned from university.

Radiohead began work again in January 2005, with Thom playing a selection of new songs to the other members, who in turn began adding their own parts. The recording process has been described by the band as “unorganised”, and very different to the way Radiohead has recorded before. By early autumn, the band returned to more regular recording sessions, posting intermittently in their Dead Air Space blog on their progress.

Perhaps the biggest change is the choice of producer for the record: for the first time in more than a decade, Nigel Godrich won’t oversee the making of the album, although he collaborated on Thom’s 2006 solo album and may record some material with the band. According to Ed O’Brien, Radiohead wanted to challenge themselves again and felt too “comfortable” with Godrich as sole coproducer. Instead, the band is working with Mark “Spike” Stent who has previously engineered, mixed or produced albums by Bjork, Massive Attack, U2 and Madonna).

It appears unlikely that the band will re-sign with EMI. Its management has also dismissed rumours that Warner Music was lining up to sign the band, stating: “The band (is) not looking for a record company in any way, shape or form. They are out of a contract, but they’re not actively looking for another one. They’re getting on with doing what they do”. In an interview in April for NME, Thom revealed that they do plan to sign a record deal eventually, but on their own terms, and not until the album is finished. This was confirmed in a June interview with The Observer: “‘Will we re-sign to EMI?’ he mused. ‘I don’t know. I don’t think we’d sign sign to anybody. Give someone a record when it’s done if we feel that they can do it justice. That’s it.’”

In March 2005, Thom and Jonny performed at the Ether Festival in London, with the London Sinfonietta, the Arab Orchestra of Nazareth, and others. The song “Arpeggi”, which will likely be included on Radiohead’s next release, was debuted in this performance. Greenwood also debuted two of his own classical pieces, one written for the Ondes Martenot. Later that summer, Yorke performed an acoustic set for the Trade Justice Rally, performing “Nude” (aka “Big Ideas”), debuting the new song “House of Cards,” reviving the unreleased “Reckoner,” and introducing “Last Flowers [to the Hospital],” apparently a remnant of the OK Computer period. All are considered possible candidates for Radiohead’s next recordings, though only “Nude” and “House of Cards” have been performed since by the full band.

In early September 2005 the band recorded a new piano and vocal-based song, “I Want None of This”, for the War Child charity album Help: A Day in the Life, a sequel to the 1995 compilation for which the band had written “Lucky.” In contrast with that song, “I Want None of This” was not released as a single.

The new album’s release date and title are still unconfirmed. In 2005 Yorke has said the band might not even release an album at all, but EPs or tracks distributed through the Internet, although the band have often claimed this as a possibility in the past and then released an album. Radiohead has begun debuting some of its new material during its present tour of smaller venues in Europe and North America. The band is also headlining several concert festivals for the first time, including Bonnaroo in Tennessee and the UK’s V Festival. After the tour is over the band is expected to return to recording, releasing their seventh album sometime in 2007 (which would make it the longest gap between any Radiohead albums).

Thom and Jonny began Radiohead’s 2006 summer tour with an acoustic benefit show for environmental organization Friends of the Earth at London’s Koko club, for an audience including representatives of major British political parties (among the fans, controversially, was Tory leader David Cameron). During the full band’s current tour, in addition to playing re-arranged versions of “Arpeggi,” “Nude” and “House of Cards,” Radiohead has so far premiered eleven new tracks: “Bangers ‘N’ Mash”, “Open Pick”, ” 15 Step”, “4 Minute Warning”, “Arpeggi”, “Spooks”, “Bodysnatchers”, “Go Slowly”, “Videotape”, “Down Is The New Up” and “All I Need”. Apparently these tracks represent only a part of the new material, and the band has said more songs may still be premiered at upcoming concerts. Tracks that have been “announced” by the band on their weblog and have yet to be debuted in full band arrangements include “Last Flowers”, “Burn the Witch,” and “5ths,” although the latter may have evolved into “All I Need.”
