【Product Description】
The Hong Kong Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (HOKLAS) is an accreditation scheme administered by the Hong Kong Accreditation Service (HKAS). It operates based on international standards and provides independent and impartial accreditation services on a voluntary participation basis. Any Hong Kong laboratory, proficiency testing provider, or reference material producer that performs objective testing and calibration, provision of proficiency testing and production of reference material falling within the scope of the Scheme, and meets the HOKLAS criteria of competence, is welcome to participate.

This service provides HOKLAS accreditation support for instruments or products, assisting clients in having their instruments or products tested and calibrated through accredited laboratories to ensure the reliability of associated results and confirm that the laboratory implements a compliant management system. Accreditation is recognition of the capability of a laboratory to perform specific activities and does not guarantee individual results or equate with product certification. Accredited laboratories are required to have their testing and measuring equipment regularly calibrated by a competent calibration organisation to establish metrological traceability to the International System of Units (SI).

HKAS currently provides accreditation services to non-medical laboratories for 15 test categories, covering calibration services, chemical testing, Chinese medicine, construction materials, electrical and electronic products, environmental testing, food, forensic testing, miscellaneous, pharmaceutical products, physical and mechanical testing, textiles and garments, toys and children's products, and other technical disciplines. In addition, HKAS also provides accreditation services for testing laboratories under the China Compulsory Certification (CCC) system.

Application Process Overview:

Laboratories applying for accreditation must complete the specified forms, submit relevant documents, and pay the application fee in accordance with HOKLAS 006 (Schedule of Accreditation Fees). The accreditation process generally includes: submission of quality documentation, advisory visit, full on-site assessment, proficiency testing, remedial actions, and accreditation decision. For accredited laboratories, HKAS conducts an annual surveillance visit or reassessment to confirm continued compliance with accreditation requirements and conditions.

International Recognition: HOKLAS accreditation is recognised by 79 accreditation bodies in 63 economies through multilateral mutual recognition arrangements of ILAC, IAF, APLAC and EA, covering testing, medical testing, calibration, inspection and management system certification.
